Customer Reviews
This crate is ideal for someone who likes to keep their home design continuous. The crate blends perfectly with almost any decor - I have a blend of white oak plantation style furnature and american mission style and this fits in seamlessly. The inside of the crate was much bigger than I thought it would be and my dog likes that the walls are very open between the spindals. She can see the whole room from inside her little safety zone. I easily fit her medium size dog bed and fleece blanket inside.
We're involved in cat rescue, in a small way, so we have cats coming to our home that we foster until a new, permanent home is found....plus we also have our own personal, resident feline family members. Sometimes a new foster will come in and need to be spayed or neutered, and needs to be isolated for a day or so to recover. Sometimes a new foster will have parasites, and needs to be isolated for a longer time until the medications eliminate the parasites, and to prevent infecting our own cats. And sometimes a new foster will just be very scared, and needs a small, more confined space for a while in order to feel safe.
We live in just a one bedroom, one bath condo, so there's no spare room to use for isolation. We had been using the black wire cages that fold down, with plastic panels and fabric cable-tied to the sides and top of those cages as barriers, but frankly, they looked ugly as sin. Also the black wire cages, being wire all the way down to the ground, did nothing to prevent litter kickout onto the surrounding floor. Constantly sweeping up litter multiple times a day was becoming a drag, so we began to look for other options.
These crates (we bought two) are the answer. The solid back, and the higher sides, have reduced the litter kickout by about 98%. The open bars provide plenty of ventilation as well as letting any cat inside be able to see out. At the same time, it's easy to just attach a plastic panel the the bars if we want to provide more of a barricade or isolation feeling for a recently abused - and thus terrified - kitty. The solid top means our cats can lie on top and not push fabric down onto the floor (as they did when we had the black wire cages with fabric over them). And while it's obvious that these are animal crates, they are definitely nicer looking than what we had!
These would never be on my list for home decor if we didn't have a need for this kind of thing. But our options are to just stop helping cats, or continue helping and have these in our living room. We've chosen to keep helping cats.
As for assembly, it couldn't be easier. I had both crates completely unpacked and assembled in less than ten minutes. They are sturdy enough to contain any cat, even a panicked one - I can't vouch for how well they'd hold a dog determined to get out. When we don't need these, we can break them down easily, and since the panels are so small individually, storing them in our closet or storage locker will be easy. We also expect that they'll be easy to clean, since they do come apart into separate panels, so each panel can be washed (an important factor when these crates will hold a succession of different cats, to prevent any spread of disease).
Overall, a great product. I just wish we'd thought of, or known about them, months ago.
